The story of
eggs + rice

How we came to be

A few years ago, Brittney was heading up a creative team for a marquee high-tech client at a small design studio in Seattle. When the agency decided to focus on a different kind of business, Britt branched out and created her own company. Eggs + Rice was born. During the ensuing years, hard work and an undying love of good design has earned Eggs + Rice a place of prominence among the strongest creative shops in the region.

Eggs + Rice Team

Why the name?

Our company name is inspired by our CEO’s first date with Marty, now Brittney’s husband. Being starving artists, and lacking the funds for a proper meal, they made eggs and rice for dinner. Indeed, for Brittney it was a humble beginning, but the audaciousness of it served as a landmark.  It took a decade, but through hard work, perseverance, and a loving dedication to good design, Eggs + Rice was founded and has since grown into a thriving company serving a wide client base within and outside Google.

Our team

Experience counts, and when you work with the creative team at Eggs + Rice that’s exactly what you get. Everyone here has at least a couple of decades of designing under their belt so we know what it takes to make your story sing, no ifs ands or buts. We’ve all done prize-winning work with the big shiny accounts, but that doesn’t mean we’re all about awards and accolades. From the humblest data sheet to a full-blown product launch, we apply the same high standards to everything we touch.

Darby Roach

Darby Roach

Creative Director + Writer

Darby Roach started in design way back when dinosaurs ruled the Earth. If there’s one thing he’s learned in all those years, it’s that ‘good enough’ is never good enough. He’s worked on just about every marquee account there is including Apple, Nike, and Microsoft. Darby’s a writer and  also has an academic side. He’s taught at RISD, Penn State and currently teaches design at Western Washington University in his spare time. Darby received his BFA in design from the University of Washington and his MFA in design from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Michael David

Michael David

Art Director / Senior Designer

Michael David is the go-to guy when it comes to systems. His knowledge of brand and interactive is unsurpassed, and his sharp eye for detail knows no rival. Michael bases his design philosophy on the idea that great design has to do more than just  look good, it must connect with the audience on an emotional level. “If it’s not strategic, it’s not design,” he’s been heard to mutter. Michael studied graphic design at Northwest College of Art.

Nathan Runyan

Nathan Runyan

Nathan earned a BS in physiology and a BFA in design and visual communications from the University of Arizona.
